Painter / Finisher

Duties and Responsibilities

• Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces.
• Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape, and texturing tasks.
• Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, and motorized lifts.
• Uses mechanized high-reach equipment to renew finishes on exterior building surfaces.
• Performs special refinishing tasks including wood surface preparation, staining, and sealing.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Performs drywall repair, blending newly renovated wall surfaces with existing finished walls.
• Communicates painting projects to provide estimated times and material quantities required; selects appropriate surface coatings.
• Performs miscellaneous duties assigned that will assist other functions of Facilities Maintenance.

Minimum Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Skill in selecting and applying paint and associated products.
• Skill in applying coatings and/or caulking and completing repairs to exterior and interior surfaces.
• Skill in wood surface preparation, staining, and/or sealing techniques.
• Skill in using hand and power tools applicable to trade.
• Skill in reading, understanding, following, and enforcing safety procedures.
• Skill in estimating basic project times and material quantity requirements.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Almost constant exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, and/or loud noises.
• Some exposure to hazards or physical risks requiring following basic safety precautions.
• Considerable physical activity involving heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.
• Must be capable of climbing and working from ladders up to 36 feet.
