About the Role
Must be able to prepare surfaces by means of abrasive blast and power tool cleaning according to paint manufacturer surface prep recommendations. The Industrial Journeyman Painter will paint equipment and structures for protection and cosmetic purposes, maintain and mix paint and other coating materials to ensure equipment or structures are painted and protected as per contract or specifications.
Responsibilities
- Identify all tools required for tasks.
- Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
- Identify and mix paint and coatings as required.
- Know the proper use and techniques (stroke types) required per the paint/coating used and the item being painted or coated.
- Work at heights and off ladders and scaffolds safely.
- Clean up work areas.
- Assist other crafts while not actively working on a painting project.
Requirements
- 4+ years working as a Painter or Painter Helper on an industrial construction project.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and processes involved with basic painting techniques and paint qualities.
- Ability to identify the relationship between materials to be painted and the technique, mixture, and number of coatings required.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work a full work schedule and any additional overtime with little to no notification.
- Willingness to work safely and follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Adherence to all company and site rules and regulations.
- Possession of all required tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) certification for Industrial Journeyman Painter.
- Formal/technical education.
- Experience working with scaffolding, insulation, or airless painting.
Physical Requirements
- Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
- Communicate through talking and hearing.
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
- Lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, work off platforms and man lifts, and occasionally work on open structures using appropriate fall protection.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
