About the role

As an Aircraft Paint Technician, you will transform aircraft with creative and detailed paintwork, from standard stripes to intricate designs. This position is ideal for individuals with a creative edge and a desire to work hands-on. The 2nd shift schedule is Monday-Thursday, 3pm-1am, with a 10%-15% shift premium, paid lunch, 3-day weekends, formal airframe training, and eligibility to transfer to 1st shift after 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Masking and taping aircraft parts to avoid overspray
  • Sanding primer
  • Blowing and cleaning aircraft with thinner
  • Washing the paint booth
  • Applying all layers of paint, including top coat
  • Laying out stripe and design schemes
  • Prepping and scuffing paint for trim
  • Re-masking aircraft and detail work
  • Inspecting completed paint jobs
  • Paint mixing and paint matching
  • Effectively and clearly communicating (speaking, writing, reading) in English
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vo-tech school in paint or on-the-job experience is preferred but not required
  • Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal
  • Experience levels:
    • Tech I: 0-2 years of paint experience in aviation, auto, RV, marine, or related field (requires close supervision)
    • Tech II: 2-4 years of experience (requires general supervision)
    • Tech III: 4-6 years of experience (limited supervision required; can act as a trainer)
    • Master Tech: 6+ years of experience in aviation interiors (subject matter expert)
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines
  • Reliable attendance, including overtime and weekend assignments
  • Reliable transportation to work daily
  • Adherence to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines
  • Customer-oriented work habits

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry 50 lbs
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting
  • Work standing on ladders or scaffolds
  • Pass pulmonary physical and respiratory fit test (must wear protective gear)

Mental Requirements

  • Understanding and implementation of regulations (e.g., OSHA, hazmat)
  • Logical work with mechanical processes
  • Professional collaboration with team members
  • Strong communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Majority of work in a heated hangar or shop area
  • Occasional work on the aircraft ramp
  • Varied positions in and around aircraft

Equipment Used

  • Air equipment, polisher, and sander
  • Stripper pump, electrostatic paint guns, pressure pots, and laser level
  • Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment

Pay

The hourly rate for this position ranges between $20 - $28, with actual pay varying based on location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation includes a shift differential (10%-15% premium for 2nd shift), semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
