Paint Technician - 2nd Shift - 1073

On-site in Chattanooga, TN. 2nd shift schedule: Monday–Thursday, 3 pm–1 am. Shift incentive includes a 10 %–15 % premium, paid lunch, 3-day weekends, formal airframe training, and eligibility to transfer to 1st shift after 3 years.

About the role

As an Aircraft Paint Technician at West Star, you will transform aircraft from ordinary to extraordinary. Our paint technicians handle everything from standard stripes and colors to highly detailed artwork. If you have a creative edge and enjoy hands-on work, this position is ideal for you.

Responsibilities

• Masking and taping aircraft parts to avoid overspray
• Sanding primer
• Blowing and cleaning aircraft with thinner
• Washing the paint booth
• Applying all layers of paint, including top coat
• Laying out stripe and design schemes
• Prepping and scuffing paint for trim
• Re-masking aircraft and performing detail work
• Inspecting completed paint jobs
• Paint mixing and paint matching
• Effectively and clearly communicating (speaking, writing, reading) in English
• Performing any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Vo-tech school in paint or on-the-job experience preferred but not required
• Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal
• Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints
• Reliable attendance, including overtime and weekend assignments
• Reliable transportation to work every day
• Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines
• Follow all company and safety rules
• Maintain customer-oriented work habits

Qualifications

Experience levels:

• Tech I: 0–2 years of paint experience in aviation, auto, RV, marine, or related field. Limited to no knowledge of the position; requires close supervision.
• Tech II: 2–4 years of paint experience. Considerable knowledge of the job; requires general supervision.
• Tech III: 4–6 years of experience. Full knowledge of the job; limited supervision required; can act as a trainer or mentor.
• Master Tech: 6+ years of experience in aviation interiors. Subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry 50 lbs
• Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting
• Work standing on ladders or scaffolds
• Pass pulmonary physical
• Pass respiratory fit test (must wear protective gear)

Mental Requirements

• Understand and implement regulations and guidelines (OSHA, hazmat, etc.)
• Logically work with mechanical processes
• Work professionally with others
• Strong communication skills

Working Conditions

• Majority of work in a heated hangar or shop area
• Occasional work on the aircraft ramp
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft

Equipment Used

• Air equipment, polisher, and sander
• Stripper pump, electrostatic paint guns, pressure pots, and laser level
• Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment
