About the role
As a Paint Store Sales Associate at Canby Builders Supply, you will assist customers with their paint projects by evaluating their needs and recommending appropriate products such as paints, stains, coatings, and supplies. You’ll provide expert product knowledge, color-matching assistance using DataColor Paint software and Accutinter paint mixing processes, and maintain a well-organized retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and determine their painting and project needs.
- Recommend appropriate paints, primers, stains, brushes, rollers, and related supplies.
- Mix and tint paint colors accurately using DataColor paint software, Accutinter computerized color-matching equipment, and Harbil Mixer machine.
- Process customer transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Maintain inventory by stocking shelves, organizing merchandise, and monitoring product levels.
- Ensure the paint department is clean, organized, and visually appealing.
- Answer customer questions regarding product applications, preparation, and cleanup.
- Assist with re-orders of paint and related products, unloading and receiving shipments.
- Follow safety procedures for handling paints, chemicals, and equipment.
- Build positive customer relationships through knowledgeable and friendly service.
- Handle customer concerns and resolve issues professionally.
- Assist in other departments within the facility as needed.
Requirements
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Sales and product recommendation experience.
- Knowledge of paint products and painting techniques.
- Experience with color matching and paint mixing.
- Cash handling and POS operation.
- Inventory management and merchandising.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Time management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to learn in-house software packages.
