About the Role

Perform restoration procedures on all body parts of automotive vehicles including trucks, trolleys, and buses. Install glass, paint, and perform a variety of other restoration activities in support of the maintenance and restoration of City vehicles. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Restore all body parts of automotive vehicles including trucks, paratransit, and buses.
  • Examine damaged vehicles and estimate cost of repairs.
  • Remove excessively damaged body parts including fenders, windows, panels, and grills; install and paint new replacement parts.
  • Straighten bent vehicle frames, repair body dents and holes, and remove old paint from specified areas using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Prepare and paint vehicles; cover areas not intended for paint with masking tape; mix a variety of paints to achieve desired color; apply vehicle body fillers and primers as appropriate; spray paint vehicles in an appropriate manner.
  • Repair and refurbish vehicle interiors including seat upholstery, flooring, and interior panels.
  • Fabricate metal panels as necessary; perform both metal and plastic welding as needed.
  • Perform minor electrical work when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED plus a two (2) year technical certificate or training in automotive repair.
  • Two (2) years of vehicle restoration experience.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Possession of an AC recovery and CNG fuel certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.

Working Conditions

Shop environment; working within confined spaces; with exposure to excessive noise, dust, and solvents.

  • Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, and repeated bending for prolonged periods of time.
