About the role
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, primarily at our Fair Oaks Pain Clinic with possible travel to Fairfax East and Loudoun Pain Clinics as needed. Inova Comprehensive Pain Centers provide a range of services for individuals with acute or chronic pain, combining the expertise of multidisciplinary pain and behavioral health specialists to offer advanced treatment options in a supportive environment. We emphasize interventional pain procedures and nonopioid therapies to control and relieve pain.
Responsibilities
- See a mix of new and established patients to collaborate with and support one physician at the Fair Oaks pain clinic, as well as additional physicians at other locations in Fairfax and Loudoun as needed.
- Obtain comprehensive medical and pain histories.
- Perform focused physical exams (spinal, motor, and musculoskeletal).
- Manage and assess acute and chronic (primarily) pain conditions.
- Recommend pharmacologic options, including non-opioid management.
- Provide patient education and referrals to Neurosurgery, Behavioral Health, Rehab/PT, and other specialties as appropriate.
- Perform procedural interventions if interested, such as trigger point and joint injections.
- Assess behavioral comorbidities and refer to the on-staff pain psychologist when appropriate.
- Assist with and perform prior authorizations, peer-to-peer reviews, and patient follow-ups.
Common conditions managed include:
- Chronic low back pain
- Neck pain
- Radiculopathy
- Spinal stenosis
- Degenerative disc disease
- Neuropathic pain
- Post-surgical pain
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Master's degree required.
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience as an Advanced Practice Provider preferred.
- Prior experience in Pain Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Orthopedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Anesthesiology, Primary Care, or a related specialty is preferred.
- Experience evaluating and managing patients with acute and chronic pain conditions is desirable.
- Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor.
- Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of prior Advanced Practice Provider experience.
