Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Pre-Op/PACU manager, the PACU nurse is responsible for implementing all physician orders, providing for the continuity and quality of nursing care for all patients, with continual evaluation of the patients' condition, providing patient safety, comfort, and privacy at all times. At times, assist the physicians in the procedure rooms with various tasks, conscious sedation, and utilizing sterile technique as deemed appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Provide total comprehensive patient care to patients emerging from general anesthesia and/or sedation.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the patient and family in preparation for discharge.
- Support in the following specialties: General Surgery, Dental, Gynecology, Breast Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, ENT, Plastics, Podiatry, Pain Management.
Requirements
- Must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the state.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in PACU or ICU.
- Must have current BLS, ALS certifications.
- Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient.
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation.
- Able to quickly adapt to changing conditions of the patient when needed.
- Excellent team player and ability to communicate with staff, patients, and physicians.
