About the Role

Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry, specializing in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. Our Ravenna, Nebraska location produces powdered meat and poultry for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals. This Packer position is responsible for packaging, labeling, and stacking finished product boxes, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, and ensuring compliance with safety and food quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safety as a top priority; follow all safety procedures and actively improve safety measures.
  • Follow SQF (Safe Quality Food) principles and report any food safety or quality issues.
  • Assemble flat boxes and label them with product information.
  • Package finished product into appropriate boxes, accurately weigh them, and seal/label completed boxes.
  • Stack boxes on pallets and transport them to the powder cooler using a pallet jack.
  • Pull frequent lab samples for product testing.
  • Clean and sanitize dryer/packing equipment, including mid-shift cleanups.
  • Complete paperwork and maintain records; verify documentation with a supervisor each shift.
  • Minimize product loss and operate all equipment safely.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and sanitary work area.
  • Report work-related injuries or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Use appropriate safety equipment (e.g., ear plugs, rubber boots, safety glasses, face shields).
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures when required.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene and adhere to GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Follow instructions from supervisors, cooperate with coworkers, and fill in where needed.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Up to one month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to speak, read, and interpret documents in English (e.g., safety rules, operating instructions).
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Some computer skills with Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Adaptability to constant changes in the workplace.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, listen, type, and work on a computer.
  • Frequently required to stand and use hands to handle or feel.
  • Must have close, distance, and color vision.
  • Required to lift 10-50 lbs.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and loud noise (hearing protection required).
  • Occasionally exposed to high places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, and extreme heat.
  • Must work in temperatures ranging from 80 to 100 degrees.
  • Safety materials and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided for lab and production floor use.
  • Special care required when working with microbes and chemicals.
