Responsible for maintaining production lines running efficiently and ensuring all product is packaged according to specifications and guidelines. Includes job rotations within the shift such as manual packaging, sealing product, organizing product into boxes, placing product on pallets, and operating pallet jacks to move/transport finished product or raw materials. Performs visual product inspections and reports any issues. Must be knowledgeable of all product specifications and familiar with production reports, prioritizing safety and general manufacturing practices. Accesses product specifications via the company’s ERP system and enters data into the system.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.
  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations (e.g., Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, Gluten Free).
  • Be knowledgeable about the products being packed, including product specifications and weight of each tortilla produced.
  • Retrieve product specifications from the company ERP system.
  • Identify and understand the specifications of the box and/or bag in which the product will be packed.
  • Program the date machine for bags and boxes according to product rotation.
  • Prepare the workstation at the start of the shift with necessary bags and boxes; maintain clean and organized work area.
  • Meet productivity goals by following the production schedule according to specifications.
  • Participate in line rotation throughout the day or workweek, including moving to other lines, assisting co-workers, or cleaning lines during downtime or break/lunch coverage.
  • Communicate proactively with the leader and machine operators regarding product deficiencies (e.g., raw or overcooked tortillas, weight issues, size discrepancies).
  • Operate Auto Baggers, Ilapak, and other auto bagging equipment.
  • Complete changeovers on the entire packaging area (vision system, counter stacker, auto bagger, bag printer, weight).
  • Enter production information into TGI (Machine Log) and complete product pathways in the TGI system.
  • Ensure all downtime is entered in the Machine Log system.
  • Retrieve and return packaging materials from/to the warehouse.
  • Use computers and RF guns proficiently.
  • Rotate within assigned workstations, packaging and boxing tortillas, and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs. throughout the shift.
  • Assist in QA programs, including pH verification, Metal Detection Program, recording pH levels, and identifying specification errors.
  • Follow and comply with all SQF requirements; maintain workstations per SQF guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Grade School level education; High School Diploma/GED a plus.
  • 1-2 years’ experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery or similar experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience following work task specifications, SOPs, and recipes.

  • Able to comply with company attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Adhere to a drug and alcohol zero-tolerance policy.
  • Comply with and follow all food safety and third-party certification policies (SQF, Gluten-Free, Organic, etc.).

Working Conditions

  • Continual walking and standing on hard surfaces, climbing, and descending steps.
  • Continual bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to rotating and reciprocating parts.
  • Operation of industrial equipment such as pallet jacks.
  • Exposure to cool, hot temperatures, and noise.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods in warm conditions with loud equipment noise.
