About the role

The Packaging Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the packaging operations and active performance management of the Packaging Operators and Lead. This role will work closely with the Sr. Packaging Manager, Assistant Packaging Manager, Packaging Leads, and Packaging Operators to ensure meeting production targets while adhering to quality control and safety standards. This position will be a front-line leader in the packaging department.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and ensure the team follows safety guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Investigate and address safety incidents, near-misses, and hazards promptly.
  • Oversee quality control measures to maintain product quality and consistency; identify quality improvement opportunities and implement solutions.
  • Supervise and coordinate packaging activities to ensure tasks are completed according to production schedules and quality standards. Monitor and audit packaging processes, using proactive planning to identify and avoid upcoming challenges.
  • Lead cross-functional team meetings to gain alignment with other departments.
  • Complete daily and weekly standard work; create and use Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure sustained and repeatable quality and performance results.
  • Identify opportunities to improve packaging efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize production processes. Implement continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving measures.
  • Oversee routine maintenance and cleaning of packaging machinery; report equipment malfunctions and collaborate with the Maintenance Department on critical repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to production, quality control, and safety. Audit lead and operator performance and standard work to ensure compliance with SOPs.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to ensure an adequate supply of packaging materials.
  • Lead and motivate the team, providing guidance, training, and support. Schedule and assign work tasks to ensure cross-training and maximize resource utilization.
  • Responsible for the career development of all reporting Packaging Operators and Leads. Hold team members accountable to daily expectations.
  • Follow escalation procedures for unresolved problems related to safety, quality, performance goals, productivity, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
  • Assist in shift scheduling and ensure proper staffing to meet production demands. Communicate scheduling changes and flex labor as needed.
  • Maintain clear and open communication within the packaging team. Provide detailed and accurate shift performance reports through various channels (e.g., end-of-shift reports, meetings, email).
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement; involve team members in problem-solving and process optimization efforts. Use root cause analysis tools to improve or eliminate process errors.
  • Conduct performance evaluations on time and provide regular constructive feedback. Recognize achievements and address areas for improvement through coaching, counseling, or disciplinary actions.
  • Hold one-on-one accountability discussions with team members to review performance, discuss areas for improvement, and set development goals.
  • Complete administrative tasks on time, including end-of-shift reports, timecards, PTO/floating holiday requests, corrective actions, and performance evaluations.
  • Perform other various job duties as required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of beverage manufacturing processes, high-speed packaging equipment, safety, and quality control standards required.
  • Experience in bottling or canning high-speed operations desired.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills such as MS Office, Teams, OneNote, and email.
  • Lean Management or similar program experience preferred.
  • Proven experience creating, implementing, and sustaining manufacturing processes and procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced and constantly changing work environment.
  • Shift work including days, evenings, overnight shifts, and up to 12 hours.
  • Overtime work, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or move for 8–12 hours per day.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs and ladders throughout the shift.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including bump cap, safety steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, dust masks, or PAPRs.
  • Must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
