Packaging/Payload Engineer
Overview
Responsibilities
Candidate will be responsible for performing detailed computational analysis in support of the SIMCO/NTP Packaging Group in the areas of payload analysis and packaging analysis. Perform engineering design and analysis of gas transport phenomena, evaluate new designs to meet TRU waste generator site packaging and payload needs. Assist in the areas of Type A payload containers, Type B Package components, Type B Package transport trailers and associated ancillary equipment to ensure that all applicable Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) and system design requirements have been met. Perform detailed analysis in support of the NRC licensing documents (SAR, TRAMPAC, etc.) for structural, thermal, shielding & payload initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in mechanical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of four (4) years of design/analysis or related experience is required, or
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of seven (7) years of design/analysis or related experience is required, or
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of nine (9) years of design/analysis or related experience is required.
- Five (5) years experience working under a quality assurance program is required.
Preferred Requirements
- Three (3) years of project management experience is desired
- In-depth knowledge and experience with modeling transport of radioactive materials considering variables such as criticality, thermal, and shielding.
