Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Obtain the Daily Bagging Sheet from the Mill Operator and review production requirements for the shift.
- Gather and organize all packaging supplies needed to support shift operations.
- Verify scale accuracy and ensure packaging equipment is properly set up and functioning correctly.
- Pre-stamp the required number of bags, fill and stack bags according to the Daily Bagging Sheet, and meet established production targets. Manually package up to 14–18 pallets or approximately 27 tons of product per shift.
- Prepare finished pallets for warehouse storage by cleaning pallets, labeling box trays, pressing pallets, weighing loads, and applying stretch wrap.
- Transport finished pallets to designated warehouse locations and accurately scan products into inventory management systems.
- Perform routine weight checks on packaged bags throughout the production process and adjust bagging equipment as needed to ensure products meet specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards and safety requirements.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Environmental Management System (EMS), including applicable policies, procedures, and the potential consequences of deviating from established operating practices.
- Comply with all environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Report safety concerns, incidents, equipment issues, or environmental compliance matters to management in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- Understand and adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain familiarity with applicable ISO standards and operating procedures and ensure compliance in daily work activities.
- Package products in accordance with customer specifications, quality standards, and production requirements.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Environmental Management System (EMS), including related policies, procedures, and the potential consequences of deviating from established operating practices.
- Complete all required quarterly SkillSoft training courses within designated timeframes.
- Monitor and maintain proper bag weights to ensure product quality and compliance with specifications.
- Inspect pallets prior to storage and shipment to ensure they are clean and free of loose material, product residue, and other debris.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by maintaining quality, safety, and environmental compliance standards throughout all packaging operations.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently twist and turn the upper body while stacking 50–55 lb. bags throughout the shift.
- Remain standing for approximately 7 hours during a typical 8-hour shift.
- Perform limited walking, primarily between the bagging equipment, pallets, warehouse locations, and forklift.
- Regularly lift and handle bags weighing 50 lbs., with occasional lifts up to 55 lbs.
- Lift and move up to approximately 1,080 bags per 8-hour shift, totaling up to 54,000 pounds of material handled throughout the shift.
- Frequently climb on and off a forklift, averaging approximately 40 times per shift.
- Climb ladders as needed, averaging approximately two times per shift.
- Perform frequent bending and stooping motions, with up to approximately 2,160 bends per shift, including up to 1,080 bends while handling 50–55 lb. bags.
- Demonstrate the physical stamina, strength, and endurance necessary to perform repetitive lifting, stacking, bending, twisting, and material-handling activities safely throughout the workday.
