About the role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Packaging Operator in our Low Voltage Division safely packages, labels, inspects, and prepares finished wire and cable products for shipment, ensuring products meet quality standards, customer specifications, and shipping requirements while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

• Package finished wire and cable products according to customer specifications and company procedures.
• Operate packaging equipment, stretch wrappers, banding machines, and other related tools.
• Verify product identification, reel sizes, lengths, labels, and packaging requirements before shipment.
• Inspect finished products for quality, damage, and proper labeling.
• Apply labels, tags, and shipping documentation accurately.
• Perform reel handling using forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, or other material handling equipment.
• Weigh, measure, and record packaged products as required.
• Maintain production records and complete required documentation.
• Follow established quality control standards and report any product defects or discrepancies.
• Assist with inventory movement and staging of finished goods.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following all safety regulations.
• Support production operations and other departments as needed.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
• Read and comprehend production work orders and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Use forklifts to move materials.

Requirements

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Previous packaging, manufacturing, or warehouse experience; wire and cable manufacturing is a plus.
• Ability to read, follow, and understand work orders.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Forklift driving experience desired; training provided.
• Use of overhead cranes desired; training provided.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and overtime.
• Strong attention to detail.

Work Environment

The essential functions of this job require working within a production facility with exposure to various noise levels from machinery and equipment.

Physical Demands

This is an active role in a manufacturing environment. While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee will be required to:

• Stand, balance, or walk consistently during a 12-hour shift.
• Frequently twist, turn, stoop, squat, kneel, bend, or reach.
• Wear required personal protective equipment.
• Use safe lifting techniques when lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
• Carry out repetitive hand/wrist movements, including forearm rotation.
• Utilize close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Frequently listen, speak, and use hands to operate equipment.

Pay

Starting pay begins at $20.00 per hour, with higher rates available for candidates who bring relevant experience. Night shift offers a $1.50 per hour shift premium.

Schedule

Our facility operates 24/7. Openings are currently full-time on day shift (5:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and night shift (5:00 PM to 5:00 AM EST). Qualified candidates must be able to work a flexible/rotating work schedule, including weekends, and cover overtime as needed.
