Packaging Mechanic
About the role
The Packaging Mechanic supports packaging activities at Lupin Somerset, operating, setting up, changing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on packaging equipment. This role involves supporting the daily operation of production and packaging lines, attending to emergency breakdowns, and training packaging operators.
Responsibilities
- Perform changeovers, set-ups, adjustments, and operate packaging line equipment according to validated parameters with support from packaging operators.
- Attend to emergency breakdown work and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Document repairs in work orders and take corrective action in case of irregularities in machines, consulting with engineers and manufacturing supervisors.
- Carry out preventive maintenance schedules for manufacturing and packaging equipment.
- Install, repair, and troubleshoot critical electrical/mechanical systems from 480V to 120V.
- Work in a team environment, request quotes for parts/service from vendors, and schedule services.
- Maintain documentation of engineering activities and keep the facility in good repair.
- Manage spare parts inventory and follow safety precautions including PPE, lockout/tagout, and other safety measures.
- Awareness of safety concerns and participation in environmental protection duties like spill containment and alarm system management.
- Travel between Lupin Somerset sites as needed.
- Perform welding, buffing, and passivation work as required.
- Train and develop packaging operator skills on line operations.
- Aid in changeovers and production mechanical issues, assist in designing machine modifications, and execute capital improvement projects.
- Respond to emergency calls, adhere to SOPs, cGMP compliance, and safety guidelines, and support quality investigations and CAPA implementation.
Requirements
- Technical school, industrial certifications, or bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience with engineering documentation using SAP.
- Electrical system knowledge and experience: 3+ years.
- Lockout/Tagout and PPE training a plus.
- Experience in a GMP environment.
- Troubleshooting and repair industrial safety equipment, hazardous material handling, arc flash training, electro/pneumatic troubleshooting, and welding experience.
