Packaging Manager

About the Role

This position manages a team of packaging engineers who design returnable and expendable packaging solutions for strategic, innovative, sometimes complex, and network-wide projects and processes within Caterpillar’s Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD). PSLD touches nearly every element of the services value stream, including Aftermarket Parts Distribution, Integrated Logistics, and Global Services supporting Caterpillar dealers and customers.

Location: Morton, IL (United States). Up to 25% travel required (domestic and international, including Mexico).

Responsibilities

• Lead or support the team in solving complex technical packaging problems, working with cross-functional teams to develop processes and tools.
• Mentor, coach, and share packaging design and processes with global and regional team members for replication or improvement.
• Design and follow global packaging processes, promoting packaging technology systems to regional packaging and customer groups.
• Report and upload data/information to the enterprise packaging system.
• Prioritize the workload of global resources to support domestic onsite engineers.
• Communicate with customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units to develop packaging documentation for global teams.

Requirements

Basic Requirements

• Effective communication skills, including the ability to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas and information accurately.
• Knowledge of performance management techniques to develop and improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
• Ability to analyze situations and make productive decisions using informed judgment.
• Technical troubleshooting skills for hardware, software, applications, or operational issues.
• Knowledge of packaging tools, approaches, and practices to safely and attractively package products and components.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in engineering or supply chain.
• Prior experience in Packaging, Transportation, Supply Chain, or Operations.
• Experience leading research and development of new packaging technology and materials.
• Experience developing and deploying creative solutions to complex problems, either personally or through direct reports.
• Experience working and communicating with a variety of clients and suppliers.
• Certifications such as APICS or CSCMP.
• Lean and Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
• Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics Management, Product Group/Management, or New Product Introduction (NPI/NSI).

Pay

Pay range: $128,470.00 - $192,710.00. Compensation and benefits may vary based on job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience.

Schedule

This position requires working onsite five days a week. Visa sponsorship is not available.
