Packaging Engineer

About the role
The Packaging Engineer II supports the development of packaging in the All Purpose Wipes, Diapers, and Baby Personal Care categories. You will execute packaging innovation projects, maintain rigorous testing processes, and support programs that enhance retail presence and shelf performance for a mission-driven brand.
Responsibilities
- Project Execution: Manage end-to-end packaging development and coordinate with vendor partners to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
- Engineering Excellence: Engineer superior primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions, including testing protocols to validate functionality, durability, and regulatory compliance.
- Retail Compliance: Ensure all packaging meets the specific retail requirements for major partners including Amazon, Walmart, and Target.
- Performance Optimization: Optimize packaging for manufacturability, lead-time targets, and cost-of-goods (COGS).
- Value Engineering: Drive significant bottom-line impact by leading value analysis and cost-reduction initiatives; identify and implement material optimization strategies in close collaboration with Procurement, Operations, and Finance teams without compromising quality or shelf impact.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support cross-functional initiatives across R&D, Brand, Sales, Retail, and Operations to ensure full launch-readiness.
- Sustainability Leadership: Partner with suppliers and professional organizations to push the limitations of sustainable packaging and integrate ESG goals into the packaging roadmap.
- Technical SME: Act as the Subject Matter Expert for materials including Paper/Pulp, Corrugate, and Flexible/Rigid Plastics.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Technology, Packaging Engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience: 2-4 years of CPG packaging development (diapers, personal care, or food experience preferred).
Skills
- Proficiency in TOPS/CAPE (pallet software).
- Knowledge of manufacturing, QA (CQV processes), and Engineering drawings.
- Experience using statistical software (Minitab, JMP) to interpret data.
- Understanding of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), sustainable packaging levers, and retailer-specific requirements (Amazon/Walmart/Target).
- Proficiency in Google Suite + Gemini; experience with JD Edwards and Veeva preferred.

Pay
The pay range for this role is $85,000 - $103,800. Actual compensation is based on many factors including but not limited to depth of experience, skill level, ability, knowledge, education, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
