Packaging Engineer

About the Role

Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for customer vehicle platforms from concept through implementation.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, NPI, and Operations teams to define packaging requirements.
• Design and develop protective packaging solutions, including containers, dunnage, and custom shipping racks.
• Optimize packaging for efficient transportation while maintaining product quality and manufacturability.
• Create and review CAD models, technical drawings, GD&T, datum structures, and tolerance stack-up analyses.
• Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and injection molding in packaging design.
• Select appropriate materials including aluminum, steel, composites, foam, and other protective materials.
• Ensure packaging designs comply with industry standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec, and customer specifications.
• Conduct packaging testing, validation, and performance evaluations to ensure product protection and compliance.
• Monitor packaging KPIs, establish best practices, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage returnable packaging, sustainability projects, project budgets, vendor relationships, risks, and change management.
• Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while effectively communicating with cross-functional teams and supporting up to 30% travel.
