Packaging Engineer

Contract Austin , Nevada & Fremont (Onsite) Job Description Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for customer vehicle platforms from concept through implementation.Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, NPI, and Operations teams to define packaging requirements.Design and develop protective packaging solutions, including containers, dunnage, and custom shipping racks.Optimize packaging for efficient transportation while maintaining product quality and manufacturability.Create and review CAD models, technical drawings, GD&T, datum structures, and tolerance stack-up analyses.Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and injection molding in packaging design.Select appropriate materials including aluminum, steel, composites, foam, and other protective materials.Ensure packaging designs comply with industry standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec, and customer specifications.Conduct packaging testing, validation, and performance evaluations to ensure product protection and compliance.Monitor packaging KPIs, establish best practices, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.Manage returnable packaging, sustainability projects, project budgets, vendor relationships, risks, and change management.Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while effectively communicating with cross-functional teams and supporting up to 30% travel.
