Packaging Designer ( Hybrid - Jersey City, NJ)

Claire's · Jersey City, NJ · 3 wk ago
Full-time

About the Role

As Packaging Designer, you'll own creative direction and execution for packaging and print across every SKU we ship. This is about making the box, the card, the clip-strip feel as considered as the product inside it. A portfolio showcasing relevant work is required as part of the application process.

Responsibilities

  • Own packaging and print design direction across all product categories
  • Develop seasonal packaging concepts, structural direction, and print and color direction
  • Build a cohesive packaging point of view that reinforces Claire's brand identity at every touchpoint
  • Create detailed packaging CADs, die-lines, and production-ready art
  • Select substrates, finishes, and embellishments; partner with Product Development on samples
  • Review print proofs, strike-offs, and color and material approvals
  • Collaborate with merchandising on packaging strategy across the assortment
  • Present packaging rationale and direction to cross-functional partners
  • Manage revisions and approvals from concept through final production files
  • Maintain awareness of competitor packaging and emerging print and production techniques
  • Monitor TikTok unboxing and packaging-reveal trends to keep Claire's packaging feeling current
  • Balance creative ambition with cost targets and production feasibility at scale
  • Guide the work of the Associate Graphic Designer, Packaging

Who You Are

  • A designer who thinks about packaging as product, not paperwork
  • A creative problem-solver who finds structural and material solutions others miss — comfortable challenging the standard box
  • Fluent in print production — die-lines, substrates, color separation — not just creative concepting
  • Comfortable being the first Designer-level owner packaging has had at Claire's
  • A strong storyteller who can make the case for packaging as a brand touchpoint

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Product Design, or a related field
  • 4–7 years of design experience, including full category ownership
  • Deep knowledge of the product development cycle, costing, and sourcing
  • Strong presentation and cross-functional partnership skills

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (full-time employees)
  • Voluntary welfare plans (full-time and part-time employees)
  • Bonus plan eligibility (full-time employees)
  • 401(k) match (full-time and part-time employees)
  • Vacation time, sick time, and paid leave (full-time and part-time employees in required states)
  • Paid sick time accrual for Washington state employees (1 hour for every 30 hours worked)
