About the role

This position provides bedded outpatient Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment to patients in the HMHI Adult Receiving Center. This position will prescribe medications and provide short-term treatment for SUD /mental health disorders within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

Responsibilities

  • Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
  • Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
  • Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
  • Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
  • Affords assistance in the collection of data for research projects.
  • Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
  • Participates in special projects and committee functions.

Requirements

The Adult Receiving Center at Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) helps individuals get help during a mental health crisis 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients are supported by a skilled team of mental health care professionals who help patients receive care and create a connection to community resources. The interventions are short, highly intensive, and focused on resolving mental health crisis in the least restrictive manner possible. This approach leads to better patient outcomes with lower cost to an emergency room visit due to reduction of unnecessary inpatient care.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Skills

The ideal candidate should have a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
