About the Role

Provides patient services under the direct supervision and responsibility of the supervising physician, including assisting in surgical cases, obtaining medical and personal histories, participating in hospital rounds, dictating discharge summaries, assessing patients in the clinic, ordering appropriate lab and x-ray, and providing counseling and education to patients and families. Attendance is an essential function of this job. This position requires the ability to utilize independent judgment and be on call with the physician approximately ten days a month.

Responsibilities

• Assist in surgical cases
• Obtain medical and personal histories
• Participate in hospital rounds
• Dictate discharge summaries
• Assess patients in the clinic
• Order appropriate lab and x-ray tests
• Provide counseling and education to patients and families

Requirements

• Graduate of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program and successful completion of the National Certification examination through the National Commission of Physician Assistants
• Licensed by the State Board of Medicine in Arkansas
• ACLS certification required
• Clinic experience preferred

OR

• Master’s degree in nursing required
• Licensed by Arkansas State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Clinical Nurse Specialist
• Certification by national certifying body with prescriptive privileges
• ACLS certification required

Physical Requirements

This is a safety-sensitive position. Normal hospital/clinic environment with exposure to biological hazards and frequent exposure to unpleasant odors.

• Hearing of normal and soft tones
• Distinguish smells and temperatures by touch and proximity
• May be exposed to airborne and infectious materials
• Required to stand for long periods of time in surgery, walk, sit, push, pull, use fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
• Reach with hands and arms
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
