About the role

This position performs as a Sworn Officer, primarily responsible for City Hall and Courtroom security. On occasion, this position provides assistance with City Events.

Responsibilities

  • Primary duty assignment to City Hall and City Court with occasional assignments for City Events.
  • May include weekends or occasional weekends.
  • Transports inmates while performing Court security functions.
  • Performs daily security checks of assigned areas to include courtrooms, holding areas, and adjacent areas before openings and court proceedings.
  • Affords assistance with securing detainees, as well as responding to emergency situations in or around Lawrenceville City Hall.
  • Maintains security-screening checkpoints which includes the operation of x-ray machines and metal detectors.
  • Handles arraignment and other court calendars as necessary.
  • Completes reports and other written assignments as directed by supervisor.
  • Works with and backs up other officers and agencies.
  • Performs related duties.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Current certification through the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Pass a physical fitness assessment (Police Recruits ONLY).
  • Pass an entry exam as outlined by GA POST (Police Recruits ONLY).

Qualifications

  • Must pass a physical fitness assessment (Police Recruits ONLY).
  • Must have the ability to read & write English Language.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of academy graduation.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma and/or GED.
  • Must successfully pass entry exam as outlined by GA POST (Police Recruits ONLY).

Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic codes, search and seizure laws, town ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of traffic accident investigation techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the geography and streets of the city.
  • Knowledge of the court system and judicial procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software.
  • Knowledge of police equipment and operations.
  • Knowledge of emergency response protocols.
  • Ability to operate police vehicles, firearms, and emergency equipment.
  • Ability to operate radios and communications equipment.
  • Ability to operate radar equipment.
  • Ability to restrain persons without causing physical harm.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Pay

Salary range: $X - $Y per hour.

Schedule

Position is limited to 29 hours per pay period (weekly).
