About the role
This position performs as a Sworn Officer, primarily responsible for City Hall and Courtroom security. On occasion, this position provides assistance with City Events.
Responsibilities
- Primary duty assignment to City Hall and City Court with occasional assignments for City Events.
- May include weekends or occasional weekends.
- Transports inmates while performing Court security functions.
- Performs daily security checks of assigned areas to include courtrooms, holding areas, and adjacent areas before openings and court proceedings.
- Affords assistance with securing detainees, as well as responding to emergency situations in or around Lawrenceville City Hall.
- Maintains security-screening checkpoints which includes the operation of x-ray machines and metal detectors.
- Handles arraignment and other court calendars as necessary.
- Completes reports and other written assignments as directed by supervisor.
- Works with and backs up other officers and agencies.
- Performs related duties.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Current certification through the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Pass a physical fitness assessment (Police Recruits ONLY).
- Pass an entry exam as outlined by GA POST (Police Recruits ONLY).
Qualifications
- Must pass a physical fitness assessment (Police Recruits ONLY).
- Must have the ability to read & write English Language.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of academy graduation.
- Must possess a High School Diploma and/or GED.
- Must successfully pass entry exam as outlined by GA POST (Police Recruits ONLY).
Skills
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic codes, search and seizure laws, town ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of traffic accident investigation techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography and streets of the city.
- Knowledge of the court system and judicial procedures.
- Knowledge of computer systems and software.
- Knowledge of police equipment and operations.
- Knowledge of emergency response protocols.
- Ability to operate police vehicles, firearms, and emergency equipment.
- Ability to operate radios and communications equipment.
- Ability to operate radar equipment.
- Ability to restrain persons without causing physical harm.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Benefits

Pay
Salary range: $X - $Y per hour.
Schedule
Position is limited to 29 hours per pay period (weekly).
