OxyChem Chemical Operator

About the role

OxyChem is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Chemical Operator to join our dynamic team at the Muscle Shoals Plant. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and strong problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment in the field and monitor process operating conditions to regulate temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flow of chemicals.
• Maintain the safety and environmental integrity of the plant by protecting the environment and ensuring the health and safety of employees, customers, and communities.
• Conduct routine inspections, troubleshoot operational issues, and respond to emergencies or changing situations.
• Log readings, lab results, shift production requirements, and equipment issues to document daily activities and facilitate shift handovers.
• Initiate work requests, perform minor maintenance, and prepare equipment for maintenance, including lockout/tagout procedures and permit preparation.
• Assist in multiple areas including production, packaging, shipping, barge unloading, truck/railcar loading/unloading, dock, and railyard operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, with a Process Technology degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a chemical plant or manufacturing environment.
• Strong proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning, with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and respond to callouts.
• Willingness to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.
• Valid driver's license.
• Physical requirements: Ability to lift 55 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, walk, bend, stoop, wear personal protective equipment including a respirator, and respond to visual and audible alarms.

Desired Qualifications

• Good working knowledge of SAP.
• Proactive attitude towards assisting colleagues in completing tasks.
