Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an approved School of Nursing.
  • Must have an unencumbered RN license in Mississippi and meet the following requirements:
    • Hold a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Nursing.
    • Have three years clinical experience working as a RN; or have two years' experience as faculty in a nursing/allied health program.
    • Satisfy clinical agency requirements, i.e.: background checks, immunizations, CPR, etc.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Maintain health care specific requirements such as CPR certification, TB skin tests, and criminal background checks to satisfy the requirements of affiliated clinical agencies.
    • Provide competent instruction in the clinical and theoretical areas of nursing.
    • Maintain high standards and promote excellence in education.
    • Participate in and contribute to the team-teaching of classroom and clinical courses and model team- enhancing behavior for students.
    • Serve as a role model for students in professional interaction with other health workers and with clinical facilities.
    • Promote positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, business, industries, and agencies.
    • Absorb and confirm the use of clinical sites.
    • Absorb and schedule curriculum content and classroom scheduling.
    • Maintain relationships with clinical sites and professional peers that support the reputation of the college and Practical Nursing Program.
    • Practice in professional development activities that support evidenced- based practice in the classroom and clinical setting.
    • Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work, in meeting classes, and in keeping office hours.
    • Collect, record, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, absences, withdrawal and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
    • Maintain attendance records for clinical groups and for classes taught.
    • Provide advice to the Lead Instructor, Practical Nursing Director and the Dean of Health Sciences on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
    • Provide advice to the Lead Instructor and Practical Nursing Director to insure the uniformity of the Practical Nursing Program on all Campuses.
    • Serve on College, Division and Nursing Staff committees as needed.
    • Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to instructional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
    • Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials such as those used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi program outlines, articulation, and bulletin materials.
    • Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
    • Promote student development through enrichment and mentoring experiences.
    • Serve as academic advisors and mentors.
    • Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outline in the College Bulletin, Policy Manual, Faculty Handbook, and Practical Nursing Program Student Handbook and follow such policies and procedures.
    • Perform all other professional duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences, PN Director, or other administrative personnel.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to take initiative to solve problems.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Experience using technology including email, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, and Internet use.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
    • Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
    • Must be a “quick study” to quickly grasp and retain knowledge of policies and procedures relating to every aspect of student services that a prospective or current student may utilize.
    • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of diverse individuals.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • While performing the duties of this job, the Surgical Technology Instructor regularly required to do the following:
      • Stand for long periods
      • Talk, hear, view, and assist students
      • Effectively communicate with others in person, telephone, zoom, & live chat
      • Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
      • Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel
      • Occasionally lift and/or move items of at least 15-20 pounds
