Overnight Veterinary Assistant

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join the Overnight Emergency team. The role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting veterinarians, performing diagnostics, providing nursing care, maintaining cleanliness, administering medications, and engaging with clients while adhering to hospital standards and R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency cases as they arrive
• Assist DVM with crafting and reviewing estimates
• Perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc.)
• Set up patients in ICU or inpatient ward
• Discharge patients and handle client communication
• Provide nursing care according to hospital standards of care and core values
• Stock, clean, and maintain cleanliness in ER, ICU, and other designated areas
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and monitor therapeutic response
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under LVT guidance
• Perform radiography and lab work
• Conduct physical exams: heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
• Engage with clients through triage, estimate review, and discharge instructions
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency as assigned

Pay

Base pay: $22.50 – $32.80 per hour, plus competitive shift differentials. Shift differentials are based on a 4‑hour minimum:

• Monday‑Friday, 6 pm–8 am: +$4.50/hr
• Saturday‑Sunday, 8 am–6 pm: +$4.50/hr
• Saturday‑Sunday, 6 pm–8 am: +$8.00/hr

Schedule

Alternating Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday shifts.
