Overnight Senior Mental Health Associate

About the Role

The Overnight Senior Mental Health Associate facilitates the daily activities of their respective shifts at the Adolescent Program by overseeing scheduling, employee relations, and operations for MHA staff. This role ensures resident safety, implements residential treatment plans, and promotes the use of the Nurtured Heart Approach and Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) interventions to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for residents.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure completion of daily shift activities, including room checks and resident safety monitoring.
• Prepare resident rooms for admission and discharge.
• Facilitate and oversee activities aligned with residential treatment plans and life skill needs.
• Implement residential policies, procedures, and curriculum for residential living.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and communicate needs to the Direct Supervisor.
• Observe, manage, and document self-administration of medication in coordination with nursing staff.
• Supervise and document parents' administration of medication to their children.
• Transport residents to medical appointments, activities, and other necessary engagements.
• Facilitate and record fire drills and other emergency procedures.
• Ensure facility compliance with regulatory licensing requirements.
• Provide oversight and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, supplies, and program-related items.
• Participate in program, committee, and clinical staff meetings as directed.
• Engage in program evaluation and quality enhancement efforts.
• Facilitate residential conflict resolution and provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Supervise Mental Health Associates (MHAs), including orientation, training, and performance feedback.
• Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of MHA staff.
• Approve work schedules, time sheets, and leave time requests for non-clinical staff while ensuring proper resident/staff ratios.
• Manage and document call-outs and ensure completion of daily shift assignments and transportation schedules.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic building atmosphere and report negligence to the Direct Supervisor.
• Act as a liaison between MHA staff and Program Management/Clinical team.
• Communicate all pertinent client and staff matters to Program Management/Clinical team.
• Model professionalism, punctuality, and adherence to program policies.
• Participate in Mileau Management and Program Management meetings.
• Implement emergency procedures as necessary and perform other duties as directed.

Shift-Specific Duties

• 11pm - 7am Senior MHA/Zone 1:
  • Verify completion of duties by staff each shift.
  • Review MARS, mommy and me bonding time reports, feeding logs, room, and hourly checklists daily.
  • Ensure all staff chores are completed.
  • Assign zones and transportation activities.
  • Assign and review Relias progress for all staff.
  • Complete shift review and medication procedures.
  • Review and address missing documentation for medication procedures.
  • Complete assigned hourly checks and make extra copies of daily paperwork.
  • Maintain office cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing desks, and cleaning windows.
  • Clean stairwells, bathrooms, and elevators.
  • Dispense medications as needed and log appropriately.
• 3rd Shift:
  • Conduct walkthroughs and staff communication between shifts.
  • Collect trash from all trash cans in the building at the end of the shift.
  • Complete hourly checklists and feeding logs.
  • Complete 1 hour of Relias training.
  • Handle emergency transports and restock supplies.
  • Conduct end-of-shift walkthroughs for cleanliness, safety, and client observations.
• Zone 2:
  • Complete assigned hourly checks.
  • Maintain kitchen and dining area cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, and wiping surfaces.
  • Replenish paper towel dispensers in the kitchen.
  • Clean the pantry, Zen & Group Room, lobby, and elevator.
• Zone 3:
  • Complete assigned hourly checks.
  • Maintain 2nd-floor bathroom cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, and replenishing supplies.
  • Clean laundry room, including sweeping, mopping, wiping counters, and sanitizing laundry baskets.
  • Wash and hang mops to dry.
• Zone 4:
  • Complete assigned hourly checks.
  • Organize and clean toys, sweep, mop, and wipe door handles.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the laundry room and area by the television.

Requirements

• A high school or high school equivalency diploma and 3 years of experience working with youth in a residential or acute care behavioral health setting, OR
• An associate's or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, or a related field and one year of experience working with youth in a residential or acute care behavioral health setting.
• Current NJ driver's license and ability to meet safe driving requirements.
• Must be 21 years or older.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional demeanor.
• Experience and confidence working within a residential or acute care behavioral health setting preferred.
• Strong team-player outlook with impeccable multi-tasking and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage crisis interventions, set boundaries, and maintain professional composure.
