About the Role
Monitor and patrol hotel property to ensure the safety of guests and employees, protecting all hotel assets. Maintain a safe and secure environment by performing protective and enforcement functions in a courteous and restrained manner, handling emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances, and threats to life and property.
The Hotel operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so operational demands require variations in shift days, starting times, and hours worked in a week.
Responsibilities
- Spend the majority of shift on foot patrol, walking and climbing stairs of the interior and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions.
- Use verbal communication via pager and two-way radio; perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and kneeling (e.g., for CPR).
- Maintain order in the hotel, assist with guest welfare (e.g., door lock problems), and coordinate expedient responses to emergencies like fires, hazards, or threats to life/property in a calm and rational manner.
- Handle undesired conduct, policy violations, and civil laws to ensure the safety of guests, employees, patrons, and property; may require lifting or moving persons, packages, luggage, wheelchairs, or safety equipment.
- Answer security telephone and safety hotline calls, responding in a timely manner based on priority.
- Use clear, concise English-speaking skills; listen with empathy, provide accurate information, and document incident details legibly.
- Memorize and monitor the life safety system, including building layout, alarm pull stations, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler locations.
- Receive, record, and store lost and found items; research and respond to guest inquiries about item status.
- Escort guests and employees to parking lots; assist employees carrying house banks.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including safety and security rules.
- Know department fire prevention and emergency procedures; utilize protective equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, near-misses, or property damage/loss to management.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per team member handbook standards.
- Assist other Front Desk Personnel as needed.
- Perform any related duties as requested by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior law enforcement or military experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the building layout, function rooms, and some familiarity with the city and surrounding areas.
- Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers, using patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and gather accurate information.
- Strong listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English to document and communicate important information.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure while remaining flexible, efficient, and maintaining a pleasant demeanor.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Proficiency in operating computers, printers, copiers, and telephones.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit continuously for the duration of the shift.
- Hearing and visual ability to detect emergency situations.
- Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders rapidly.
- Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances within and between buildings on the property.
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, and smiling.
