Overnight Patient Access Specialist - Bismarck, ND

Location: Onsite in Bismarck, ND

About the role

The Patient Access Specialist supports the patient intake and registration process within a healthcare organization. This role serves as a primary point of contact for patients and helps ensure accurate scheduling, insurance verification, registration, and financial clearance while delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients in person and over the phone
• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
• Register patients and maintain accurate demographic information
• Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorizations
• Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances
• Explain financial responsibilities and payment options to patients
• Obtain required consent and privacy documentation
• Coordinate with providers, nurses, and insurance companies to support patient care
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
• Utilize electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner

Requirements

• 1 – 2 years of healthcare registration, scheduling, or customer service is required
• High school diploma or GED required
• Insurance verification and/or prior authorization experience required
• Associate degree or healthcare certification preferred

Skills

• Previous healthcare customer service or administrative experience
• Attention to detail and data accuracy
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
• Knowledge of insurance verification and medical terminology
