Overnight Patient Access Representative - Springfield South ED

About the role

The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and register patients
  • Verify patient insurance and benefits
  • Pre-certify services
  • Ensure accurate patient data entry
  • Communicate with insurance companies and other stakeholders
  • Maintain knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans

Requirements

  • 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • High School diploma required; some college helpful
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines, and perform with high accuracy
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems
  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
  • Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties

Qualifications

A High School diploma is required, along with some college education. Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans is preferred, as is clerical experience and customer service experience.

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent telephone etiquette
  • Positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff, and insurance companies
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines

  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
