Overnight Outbound Operator
About the role
This position manages warehouse and transportation operations by acting as a yardman and loadmaster to keep dock areas organized in concert with dispatch. Accurately and efficiently load all outstate routes. Provide assistance with organization of cooler, freezer, and dry storage areas in the Distribution Center (DC). Monitor quality of all outbound products. Assist DC team as needed.
Responsibilities
- Pick up donations from donors.
- Confirm donations are received accurately before signing documents.
- Load and unload truck cargo in a safe and timely manner.
- Maintain positive employee relations with internal and external customers.
- Perform warehouse duties including filling orders and maintaining warehouse as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the food bank.
- Follow safety regulations relating to OSHA or other company-related regulations.
- Handle food safely and complete food safety training within the first 6 months of employment.
- Maintain Food Safety Certification.
- Inspect product to be donated following food safety guidelines and refuse donations if the quality is poor.
- Cookout with dispatch what equipment is required for pending delivery.
- Organize and load outbound freight for transfer and routes.
- Customer Service: Give reliable customer service to the transportation department. Demonstrate a clear understanding of our internal and external customers by responding to their needs in a timely manner or informing the manager if unable to do so. Be an outstanding role model for other program and company staff in customer service. Maintain positive relationships with donors, agency partners, program and SHH (Second Harvest Heartland) staff. Inform your manager of any problems or issues in a timely manner.
- Participate in all staff meetings and training.
Qualifications
- 0-2 years of experience.
- Forklift certified and electric pallet jack experience.
- Ability to perform moderate physical labor.
- Food Handling experience preferred.
- Effective customer service skills.
- Ability to learn computerized data input technology.
- Ability and desire to relate to and work with individuals of all backgrounds.
- Ability to adapt to varied work requirements.
- Tact and diplomacy in dealing with customers and donors.
- Proficiency in English - able to both speak and write in English.
- Able to follow both written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
- Must pass commercial driver’s physical and participate in random drug screening tests per state and federal regulations and company policies.
- To obtain a safe food handling license (employer paid training).

Pay
$23.00/hour USD + $2.50/hour USD overnight shift differential
Schedule
FT; 40 hours/week, occasional overtime. This is a 4x10 hour shift. Work days are Sunday night - Wednesday night, 7 p.m. - 5:30 a.m.
