About the role
The Operations Manager at Interstate Waste Services is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a single depot. They oversee personnel needs, execute safety measures, and interact with local agencies to ensure customer satisfaction and contract renewal.
Responsibilities
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the depot and supports supervisors in achieving quality and budget performance.
- Maintains and improves performance and productivity metrics, cost management processes, and safety protocols.
- Oversees personnel needs including selection, coaching, disciplining, training, and performance evaluation.
- Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans with the Site Manager and/or Director of Operations.
- Participates in P&L reviews to ensure budgetary compliance and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, maintenance, and labor/material costs.
- Works with local agencies to maintain customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new ones.
- Resolves employee relations and labor relations issues within the department.
Requirements
- Education: Associate degree (or equivalent) in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations.
- Experience: 3 years of work experience in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations, with experience in coaching, routing assessments, and leading employees.
- Skills: Experience in safety (OSHA) programs, equipment specifications, budget preparation, and labor relations.
Qualifications
- Experience in operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, financial, and human resources functions.
- Ability to manage supervisory employees, including direct and indirect supervision of full-time employees.
Skills
- Strong supervisory and managerial skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in budget management and cost control.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations.
- Ability to resolve labor relations issues.
