About the Role

The MCI (Mobile Crisis Intervention) Clinician provides clinical care and support to adults, youth, and their families to prevent hospitalization and stabilize individuals in the community. This role involves mobile, on-site, face-to-face therapeutic responses to behavioral health crises, including assessment, treatment, and stabilization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term mobile, on-site therapeutic response to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises to assess, treat, and stabilize situations, reducing immediate risk of danger.
  • Deliver brief solution-focused interventions and reassess the current level of need for adults waiting for higher levels of care.
  • Conduct post-crisis evaluation and intervention during follow-up periods when applicable.
  • Collaborate with supportive and peer staff to provide resources, referrals, support, and psychoeducation to families.
  • Attend community-based meetings with adults, their families, and providers to assist with advocacy and address safety concerns.
  • Complete collateral contacts with the adult’s providers.
  • Engage clients in safety planning.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies and provide triage through the call center.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete intake data forms by telephone or in person, either on-site or at outreach locations.
  • Confirm health care coverage and conduct comprehensive mental health status exams using admissions/screening instruments, including providing a DSM IV or DSM V diagnosis.
  • Perform telephone screenings and consultations.
  • Apply different treatment modalities to stabilize clients in their homes and prevent hospitalization.
  • Consult with program director/administrator on call or consulting psychiatrist prior to disposition plans, including outpatient services, hospitalization, or hospital diversion.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled clinical supervision, staff meetings, staff development, and training.
  • Maintain clinical professional licensure through continued education, if licensed.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide clinical care and support to adults and their families to prevent hospitalization and stabilize individuals in the community.
  • Ability to move quickly in responding to emergencies.
  • Understanding of different treatment modalities applicable to crisis stabilization.
  • All 24-hour/Acute Care Services program staff are considered essential and must report to work as scheduled, regardless of holidays, emergencies, or agency closings (e.g., inclement weather).
  • May be required to work beyond a forty-hour work week or remain on shift/additional shifts until relief staff are available.
  • Must mobilize and respond to cases throughout catchment areas and report to other MCI offices (New Bedford, Fall River, Plymouth) as requested by management.
  • For overnight positions, staff must stay awake for the entirety of their shift.

Schedule

  • Friday and Saturday: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
  • Saturday: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Pay

  • Shift differential: +$7.50/hour for Friday and Saturday 3rd shift.
  • Language differential: +$1.00/hour for eligible languages (Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, or ASL).

Compensation is carefully determined based on prior experience, education, certifications, licenses, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other job-related factors. Depending on role eligibility, the offer may include a bonus or other incentives.
