Job Description

BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST (FT, PT, & On Call)

Location

Moreno Valley, CA

Qualifications/Experience

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral sciences field OR at least 60 units of completed college coursework, half of which must be upper division in behavioral science
  • AND at least two (2) years of experience working on the behavior modification of at-risk and emotionally disturbed youth and or dually-diagnosed children/youth in residential, corrections, community or school settings
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care is a MUST
  • Experience in ABA, specifically DTT, PRT, and Verbal Behavior are preferred

Behavior Specialist Duties

  • Awake overnight supervision of youth residing in the STRTP
  • Conduct facility rounds to ensure safety at the facility
  • Complete nightly tasks to ensure the facility is neat, clean and meets licensing standards
  • Provide non-therapy mental health services which include:
    • Utilizing creative and evidenced based behavior interventions to residents
    • Implement behavior programs
    • collect data and document behaviors
    • assistance in improving, maintaining, or restoring a client’s or group of clients’ functional skills, daily living skills, social and leisure skills, grooming and personal hygiene skills, meal preparation skills, and support resources
    • and/or medication education
  • Counseling the individual and/or family regarding job issues
  • Staff providing must have training in behavioral analysis with an emphasis on positive behavioral interventions
  • Provide structure and support
  • Assist the child/youth in engaging in appropriate activities
  • Minimize impulsivity
  • Increase social and community competencies by building or restating those daily living skills that will assist the child/youth to live successfully in the community
  • Serve as a positive role model and assist the child/youth in developing the ability to sustain self-directed appropriate behaviors, internalize a sense of social responsibility, and/or enable appropriate participation in community activities
  • Be available to participate in weekly/monthly treatment plan meetings and conference calls requiring input and feedback regarding the resident progress and intervention strategies
