About the role
The Overhead Utility Foreman leads the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground distribution systems.
Responsibilities
- Work new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized overhead and underground distribution systems based on directions, job prints, and work orders.
- Safely lead and supervise crews, coordinate work assignments, and train new staff.
- Conduct pre-job planning and ensure safe work based on job prints and work orders.
- Troubleshoot problems in primary and secondary systems.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Understand minimum approach distance and ladder requirements.
- Safely use gloves, protective gear, and line protection devices to work with live high voltage systems.
- Maintain and safely operate company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Communicate effectively with employees and customers.
Requirements
- Advanced ability to read and understand work orders, instructions, and procedures.
- Understands equipment setup and grounding.
- Highly proficient in critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
- General knowledge of OSHA standards for energized and de-energized working conditions.
- Capable of active listening and effective communication (written, verbal, and nonverbal).
- Self-motivated and organized.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Technical degree, 0-2 years’ field experience, extensive mechanical ability, or combination of education and/or experience.
- CDL A or the ability to obtain one.
- OSHA Certifications.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, lift and carry up to 60 lbs, crawl, kneel, push, reach, use hands to finger, handle, and feel.
Work Environment
- Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
- Occasionally exposed to extreme conditions at construction job sites.
- Noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
- Performed in outside weather conditions.
