OVD Process Engineer

About the role
Process engineer to launch and support a new OVD (Outside Vapor Deposition) production line, ensuring safe and efficient operations. Provide engineering support to meet start-up and ramp-up schedules for production. Use process expertise to achieve daily output and quality requirements while driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Work with a growing team to implement a new process and become the expert in optical fiber overcladding technology.
- Support the engineering needs of construction and installation teams during early phases.
- Spec and source key parts in collaboration with equipment suppliers.
- Ensure all process and product flow details are prepared on time with the operations team.
- Test equipment during the commissioning phase to verify it meets process requirements.
- Monitor, control, and improve glass-making processes (OVD deposition + sintering furnace) using scientific principles and data analysis after production begins.
- Plan and implement projects to maintain and improve processes to meet KPIs (quality, output, yield).
- Perform regular data analysis for process and product improvements with hands-on problem-solving.
- Excel as a team player and occasional leader, collaborating with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.
- Support troubleshooting of existing equipment and processes.
- Take a leading role in short- and medium-term projects with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate excellent documentation (SOPs, maintenance instructions), communication, and presentation skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (required).
- Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing or industrial experience.
- Experience with chemical vapor deposition processes.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Science engineering (preferred).
- Database experience in SQL or equivalent.
- Programming knowledge (e.g., C++, Python) is desirable.
Skills
- Highly adaptable to mechanical, materials, and chemical systems in industrial applications.
- Hands-on manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of applied statistical practices and data analysis.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work in a diverse team of technical and non-technical staff.

Work Environment
This position entails sitting, standing, and lifting up to 25 lbs in a manufacturing plant environment.
