In this role, you'll maintain and grow ICONIX's customer base within your assigned territory by understanding customer needs, identifying new business opportunities, and providing the products, services, and solutions that help our customers succeed. This is more than a sales role; it's an opportunity to become a trusted partner to contractors, municipalities, engineers, and other industry professionals while helping deliver the essential infrastructure our communities depend on every day.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers by understanding their businesses, projects, and evolving needs.
  • Grow your assigned territory by proactively prospecting for new customers and identifying opportunities to expand existing accounts.
  • Spend time in the field visiting customers, job sites, contractors, municipalities, and other industry partners to strengthen relationships and uncover new opportunities.
  • Understand customer needs and recommend products, services, and solutions that provide meaningful value and help customers complete projects safely, efficiently, and successfully.
  • Research customer businesses, upcoming projects, construction plans, bids, and market activity to anticipate customer needs and position ICONIX as a preferred supplier.
  • Prepare and submit accurate, competitive quotes outlining pricing for all required products, supplies, and materials for customer construction bids and projects.
  • Follow up on quotes and sales opportunities, address customer questions and objections, and work to convert opportunities into profitable business.
  • Develop a strong understanding of waterworks products and applications to provide knowledgeable, consultative solutions to customers.
  • Partner with Inside Sales Representatives and branch leadership to coordinate customer needs, quotes, orders, and opportunities from initial inquiry through project completion.
  • Collaborate with purchasing, warehouse, and operations teams to help ensure products are available, orders are fulfilled accurately, and customer commitments are met.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers, deliver on agreed-upon promises, and identify opportunities to create future growth.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and new products to identify opportunities and strengthen ICONIX's position in the market.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and sales activity information in company systems.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented environment where collaboration, initiative, accountability, and continuous improvement drive success.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of outside sales, territory sales, business development, account management, or related experience building and retaining a customer base.
  • Experience in waterworks, construction, utilities, wholesale distribution, plumbing, industrial products, or a related industry is preferred.
  • A proven ability to build strong customer relationships, establish trust, identify new business opportunities, grow existing accounts, and achieve sales goals.
  • Strong consultative selling skills, with the ability to understand customer needs, recommend personalized solutions, overcome objections, negotiate effectively, and move opportunities through the sales process.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize high-value activities, manage multiple opportunities, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work independently and autonomously while collaborating effectively with customers, branch teams, and sales partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality, and delivering on promises.
  • The ability and willingness to learn technical product information and apply that knowledge to customer and project needs.
  • Comfort using computers, CRM systems, business software, and learning new technology.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory, with travel of up to 50% of the time as needed.

Skills

  • Identify new business opportunities while finding ways to expand and strengthen existing customer relationships.
  • Ask the right questions, listen carefully, and match customer needs with the right products and solutions.
  • Confidently navigate the sales process, overcome objections, and move opportunities forward while prioritizing the highest-value activities that drive customer and business growth.
  • Deliver on agreed-upon promises, communicate proactively when circumstances change, and partner with internal teams to create a seamless customer experience from quote through order fulfillment and delivery.
  • Take ownership of your territory, customer relationships, and results while looking beyond the immediate sale to identify opportunities for long-term growth and contributing to the success of the broader team.

Benefits
