About the role
BlueLinx is seeking a driven Outside Sales Representative – National Retail to manage existing national retail relationships while aggressively growing new revenue within the region.
Responsibilities
- Identify new sales opportunities with both new and existing national retail customers, with a focus on program business.
- Maximize sales effectiveness by prioritizing time and effort on the largest and most profitable opportunities, including segmentation of account lists.
- Improve overall profitability, product penetration, and product mix across assigned accounts.
- Qualify sales opportunities through market and customer research and collaboration with insider sales partners.
- Develop sales solutions and competitive pricing strategies; articulate value propositions to customers.
- Present and propose sales solutions to customers and adjust strategies as needed based on customer feedback and market conditions.
- Close sales opportunities by securing purchase orders and ensuring all order fulfillment procedures are executed accurately.
- Provide outstanding post-sale service and support to ensure long-term customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent industry experience strongly preferred.
- 0–2 years of experience in a sales role with responsibility for growing accounts and generating new business.
- Ability to manage an existing book of business while expanding partnerships.
- Building materials or related industry experience is a plus.
- Strong market knowledge, product familiarity, and consultative selling skills.
- Demonstrated “hunter” mentality with a strong drive for results.
- Excellent planning, organization, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Working knowledge of account management, customer service, product pricing, sales support, warehousing, distribution, and transportation.
- Self-motivated, disciplined, and performance-driven.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant sales systems and technology.
- Strong telephone and communication skills with the ability to identify needs, evaluate solutions, and recommend action.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time.
