About the Role

Edge, a division of NEFCO Construction Supply, is a business-to-business supply distribution company serving commercial contractors, industrial businesses, municipalities, and government entities. With over 65 years in operation, Edge is privately held, spans 5 states with 9 locations, and is headquartered in Spokane, Washington. We offer a rental department, repair center, customer training, and customizable services, selling over 30,000 products from more than 200 manufacturers, including power tools, hand tools, safety equipment, abrasives, fasteners, hangers, strut, ladders, and trade-specific tools and equipment.

As a member of NEFCO’s outside sales staff, you will develop and manage relationships with both established and new customers, selling products and services to achieve sales and profitability goals. The role requires calling on commercial construction job sites as well as contractor offices.

Responsibilities

  • Daily travel in assigned territory to commercial construction job sites and contractor home offices.
  • Represent the Company professionally with customers and prospects in your specified territory and account/job site assignments.
  • Serve as the primary owner of customer relationships, handling day-to-day customer relations and service, including special or emergency deliveries.
  • Maintain a regular frequency of quality sales calls to customers and prospects in an economical and systematic order.
  • Introduce new products and conduct joint sales calls with vendor representatives and NEFCO sales management.
  • Assist inside sales during the quote/order process as needed.
  • Develop a strong and positive working relationship with the inside sales team.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency in following up on quotes generated by inside sales staff.
  • Consult with sales management on large quote opportunities.
  • Share competitive information with the inside sales team to facilitate strong quoting activity.
  • Identify prospective customers using market intelligence databases, business directories, customer leads, and industry organizations.
  • Use the NEFCO CRM system to record activities and facilitate transactional follow-up in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Utilize catalogs, brochures, and marketing literature to present to current and potential customers.
  • Demonstrate a competent understanding of spec sheets and submittal requirements for customers on key job sites.
  • Attend sales meetings and product training sessions as required.
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints, problems, and delinquent accounts as needed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of sales plans for the territory.
  • Attend periodic sales meetings with the regional manager to review forecasts and territory activities.
  • Always represent NEFCO in a professional manner and maintain flexibility in scheduling sales calls.
  • Perform other duties inherent to the role of an outside sales representative.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a strong ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent technology skills, including proficiency with NEFCO’s CRM software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Goal-oriented with personal integrity and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Highly organized with good time management skills.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
  • Excellent regular attendance and punctuality to ensure timely responses for customers.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently to meet or exceed goals.
  • Valid driver’s license with a record of sustained safe driving (driver background check required).
  • Degree preferred, though industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 1-2 years of work experience, preferably in construction supply sales.
  • Previous sales experience with mechanical or electrical contractors is ideal; outside sales experience is a plus.

Essential Functions

  • Driving to and from job sites and customer locations.
  • Verbal communication via phone and in person.
  • Identifying and reviewing written documents in mail and on computer.
  • Climbing stairs, stretching, and bending; traversing uneven terrain on job sites.
