Outpatient Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health Urgent Care - Talbot
About the role
The BHUC-Talbot Nurse is responsible for managing the triage/intake of patients in the BHUC-Talbot walk-in clinic, as well as incoming BHUC-Talbot clinic phone calls. After triage or phone call, the nurse determines if the patient is clinically appropriate for BHUC-Talbot or requires higher level of care. The nurse conducts a focused triage assessment, prioritizing patient's immediate safety and medical needs. Duties include providing brief mental health and substance use disorder triage, managing clinic phone calls, obtaining patient vitals, administering breathalyzer, providing comfort care, assisting with prescription issues, responding to MyChart messages, and other patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage triage/intake of walk-in patients and incoming clinic phone calls
- Determine clinical appropriateness for BHUC-Talbot or higher level of care
- Conduct focused triage assessment
- Note signs of mental health, substance use, or both
- Prioritize immediate safety and medical needs
- Provide brief mental health and substance use disorder triage
- Manage clinic phone calls
- Obtain patient vitals
- Administer breathalyzer (when indicated)
- Provide comfort care for withdrawal symptoms
- Aid in resolving prescription issues and pharmacy concerns
- Return phone messages promptly
- Administer Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and long-acting injectable MAT or psychiatric medications
- Aid in obtaining and forwarding lab results, urine drug screens
- Provide patient education on medications and side effects
- Respond to MyChart messages and other patient needs
Requirements
Minimum 2 years experience as a psychiatric RN is required, BSN preferred. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 10:30 am - 7:00 pm.
Qualifications
Mental Health and substance abuse experience.
