About the role
The Outpatient Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care within a high-touch ambulatory retail pharmacy, supporting medication access, prescription fulfillment, and transitions of care for patients across the continuum.
Responsibilities
- Verifying and dispensing prescriptions
- Performing clinical medication reviews and therapy assessments
- Counseling patients on safe and effective medication use
- Resolving insurance, billing, and medication access issues
- Partnering closely with physicians, nurses, care coordinators, and bedside teams to support discharge planning and continuity of care
- Supervising pharmacy technicians and ensuring efficient daily operations
- Maintaining professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences
- Educating and training students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients
- Accountable for drug use policy adherence
Requirements
- PharmD or Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy
- Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible in current state within 90 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations within 90 days of hire for those administering immunizations
Qualifications
- Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience
- Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area
- Board Certification
- Licensed Pharmacist with ambulatory/outpatient pharmacy experience
Skills
- Ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Reach, stretch, stoop, climb steps and sit
- Normal or corrected vision
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person
