Outdoor Youth Counselor
Eckerd Connects’ Camp E-Nini-Hassee is seeking Outdoor Youth Counselors for our residential facility in Floral City, Florida. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to work and reside on Florida's first 860-acre outdoor therapeutic wilderness camp for girls.
About the Role
This position lives with girls ages 12 to 17, providing daily hygienic oversight, therapeutic support/group counseling, and therapeutic outdoor adventures. As a live-in residential counselor, you will foster positive relationships, guiding and mentoring youth as they navigate personal and educational challenges. Flexible schedule availability is required, including some nights and weekends.
Outdoor Youth Counselors reside on-site adjacent to youth campsites five days per week in open-air cabins nestled in Florida's rural landscape. On-site fully furnished housing is provided at no cost, with the option to reside off-site in self-funded housing.
Responsibilities
- Provide therapeutic support to 10-12 teenage girls struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, family conflicts, neglect, and poor academic performance.
- Provide daily supervision and support to residents in a structured and safe living environment.
- Serve as a co-teacher while youth attend the on-site school each day; monitor youth behavior and ensure an environment conducive to learning.
- Supervise youth 24 hours a day for 5 days a week, including crisis support, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques (with Night Watch employees assisting during sleeping hours).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, reside in open-air cabins, and walk regularly throughout wilderness terrain during a 24-hour/five-day work week.
- Maintain a positive attitude in a wilderness setting with exposure to outdoor/weather conditions.
- Level 2 background screening through Florida's Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

About Our Program
Camp E-Nini-Hassee was founded in 1969 as the first outdoor therapeutic program for girls at-risk in the southeast. We provide a positive, strength-based environment for girls ages 12-18 using a reality-therapy approach in a residential, outdoor therapeutic setting. Each girl receives individualized treatment, accredited on-site education with certified teachers, and family services.
Our program helps girls considered at-risk who struggle with school, family conflicts, drug experimentation, depression, low self-esteem, emotional problems, or behavioral issues.
