Outdoor Program - Rental Technician

Job Summary/Basic Function

Position Title: Outdoor Program Rental Technician
OP Rental Technician will be primarily responsible for checking-out, checking-in, inspecting, cleaning and maintenance of outdoor equipment, and registration of participants for adventure programs. Candidates must have a strong interest in outdoor recreation, experience working with outdoor equipment, the ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, and great customer service.

Required Qualifications

  • General knowledge of outdoor equipment and its use.
  • CPR/AED and Standard First Aid Certification is required for working at the OP. Newly hired employees can take a CPR certification course through the Department of Campus Recreation.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Maintain a professional and attentive presence.
  • Equipment reservation, rental, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Maintain current CPR and First-aid certifications.
  • Attend mandatory monthly meetings, orientations, and staff development workshops.
  • Assist customers with the loading and unloading of equipment to and from vehicles.
  • Read, understand, and abide by all employee policies and procedures as stated in the Outdoor Program employee policy and procedures manual.
  • Assist with maintenance and cleanliness of the Outdoor Program
  • Participants in adventure programs, clinics, and/or workshops.
  • Provide customers with information about locations and suggestions for outdoor recreation.
  • Provide general instructions on the use of outdoor equipment.
  • Follow emergency care procedures in the event of an injury or emergency.
  • Perform other duties as specified by the Outdoor Program Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator and/or Rental Manager.
  • Be knowledgeable of Campus Recreation programs and services so that you can be an ambassador of Campus Recreation.
  • Possess Federal Work Study status.

  • The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position: The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
