About the role

This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List to fill Orange County Parks vacancies, until the next recruitment. The MCS II positions supervise a crew performing semi-skilled work; work from simple plans and specifications to repair, replace, or install parks facilities; generally working with a single piece of equipment and/or various power tools. Positions in this class are distinguished from higher level classes in the series by the smaller scope and lesser difficulty level of projects assigned; and crews generally work within close proximity of the incumbent at a single site.

Responsibilities

• Direct and participate in the work of crews performing maintenance and repair of park facilities;
• Perform other work as required with only general supervision;
• Flexible to work a variety of shifts and locations which include nights, weekends and holidays;
• Independent body mobility to walk in public and in unimproved park facilities;
• Read, write and speak English to effectively communicate with the public, co-workers, local law enforcement or emergency service personnel;
• Perform heavy laboring work, which includes the ability to lift 50lbs.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid California Drivers License, Class A or B may be required for some assignments;
• Possession of, or ability to obtain an Inmate Labor Supervisor Card may be required at some facilities.

Qualifications

• The Ideal Candidate Must Possess The Following Competencies:
• LEADERSHIP EXPEREINCE: Supervise, train, monitor, and evaluate the work of subordinate staff; provide technical assistance to subordinate staff and assigned personnel. Understand supervision techniques related to training, direction, control, and evaluation of subordinates Understand and follow written directions and oral instruction; give instructions and direct the work of others Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, outside agency/department personnel, and the public.
• TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: Methods, tools, equipment and materials used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works, park, or landfill facilities associated with assigned level. Symbols, signs and technical data required to read, interpret and understand construction plans and specifications required for construction assignments. Operation and capabilities of heavy construction equipment such as power shovels, truck cranes, and heavy truck loaders required for construction assignments. Understand and interpret plans and specifications Understand and comply with regulations in the application of traffic stenciling to roadways and traffic sign installation required for traffic assignments. Perform a variety of semi-skilled or skilled manual tasks relating to the repair and maintenance of park facilities as required by specialty assignment area.
• Safety Savvy: Safe work practices associated with maintenance and construction projects including the appropriate use of materials and equipment; traffic control; traffic safety regulations; utility protection; and construction site safety. Train subordinates in the use of equipment and safe work practices. Identify, report and correct equipment problems in an efficient and timely manner Handle emergency situations dealing with problem road or flood conditions with tact and diplomacy Ensure the safety of subordinates at all time.
• PLANNING / ORGANIZATIONAL EXPEREINCE: Prepare performance evaluations, daily attendance reports, incident reports, disciplinary reports, and injury reports. Maintain records of work completed, timekeeping records, equipment and materials Plan, organize and effectively complete projects utilizing a team environment Effectively use time management skills in order to prioritize projects.
