Outdoor Adventure Instructor (Staff Wage)
About the role
The University of Virginia Recreation Department is seeking Outdoor Adventure Instructors to lead various outdoor activities including kayaking, rock climbing, and hiking.
Responsibilities
- Lead programs ranging from 2-hour clinics to full-day trips.
- Provide instruction in kayaking and/or climbing programs if certified.
- Ensure CPR, First Aid, and Wilderness First Aid certifications are obtained upon hiring.
- Work a limited schedule of 1500 hours per year.
Requirements
- Previous outdoor experience is required.
- CPR, First Aid, and Wilderness First Aid certifications are preferred but will be provided upon hiring.
- A valid Virginia Drivers License is required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma.
Skills
- Knowledge of outdoor recreation activities to be taught.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to engage students and staff professionally.
Benefits
This is a wage position that is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.
