About the role

The Slide Ranch Seasonal Outdoor Instructor position is a term role from September 2, 2026 - May 22, 2027. Slide Ranch is a non-profit educational farm located in a spectacular coastal location, accessible via Highway 1 (Shoreline Highway) near San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding school and community groups and families around the farm, incorporating specific learning objectives depending on the age of participants and the type of program scheduled.
  • Leading focused workshops that celebrate the season and resources from the ranch.
  • Performing rotational, 30-minute farm chores, preparing for the program, leading a program, and program clean-up.
  • Leading evening programs that may include night hikes, campfires, or other evening activities for overnight groups.
  • Completing several instructional observations, professional development opportunities, and receiving coaching by program staff.

Requirements

  • Committed to the mission and vision of the organization, embodying Slide Ranch values.
  • At least 1 year experience in outdoor education and/or working with children.
  • Great communication skills, organized, high level of integrity, and positive attitude.
  • Strong individual and group management skills.
  • Comfortable living in rustic accommodations and leading people in the outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Willingness to work in a small, nonprofit organization and handle unexpected challenges and opportunities.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English).

Physical Requirements

  • Duties are performed in a hilly and rural outdoor setting and can be physically demanding, including outdoor teaching in all weather, manual labor such as shoveling, pulling weeds, or carrying large grain bags, lifting up to 40 lbs., and farm chores.
