Outbound Logistics Manager
About the role
The Outbound Logistics Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of At Home's Outbound logistics. They will be responsible for managing a team that ensures our distribution centers have empty containers to load, timely pickup and transport to pool points, and managing transportation mishaps throughout the freight journey. They will be tasked with ensuring necessary documentation is sent to both internal and external partners. This position will collaborate with other members of the distribution team including the VP of Global Logistics to provide insight into any issues within the outbound network and facilitate daily solutions. They will also assist the Senior Vice President, Supply Chain with any special projects centered around the role.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement transportation strategies that optimize cost, service, capacity, and operational performance across the distribution network.
- Partner with Distribution Center, Store Operations, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional leaders to improve transportation service, increase efficiencies, and reduce overall costs.
- Establish and manage transportation performance expectations, ensuring service levels, financial objectives, and operational requirements are consistently achieved.
- Monitor transportation market conditions, industry trends, carrier capabilities, and emerging opportunities to identify cost savings, network optimization, and service improvements.
- Lead the management and performance of the core carrier network, including carrier onboarding, capacity planning, service performance, cost management, and continuous improvement.
- Develop transportation capacity strategies to support peak seasons, business fluctuations, new store openings, and changes in outbound volume.
- Analyze transportation spend, operating metrics, and service performance to identify root causes of inefficiencies and develop corrective actions and long-term improvement strategies.
- Evaluate and optimize transportation routes, delivery coverage, and network requirements to support existing locations, new stores, seasonal demand, and changing business needs.
- Maintain strong on-time delivery performance and establish effective communication processes to proactively identify, escalate, and resolve transportation and service issues.
- Evaluate transportation initiatives, network changes, and business opportunities using financial and operational analysis to assess risks, benefits, and overall business impact.
- Identify and analyze critical business information to support effective decision-making, recommendations, and process improvements.
- Establish and maintain appropriate empty trailer and equipment pools across distribution centers to support operational requirements and maximize asset utilization.
- Oversee daily carrier capacity and transportation operations at distribution centers, ensuring timely load pickups, efficient equipment utilization, and delivery of loads to designated pool points and destinations.
- Establish transportation performance metrics and reporting to monitor cost, service, capacity, carrier performance, and operational trends.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across transportation operations, leveraging data, technology, and industry best practices to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Build strong relationships with carriers and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on business priorities, service expectations, capacity requirements, and performance improvement.
- Lead, supervise, and coach direct reports, including setting performance expectations, developing talent, conducting performance reviews, and providing ongoing feedback and guidance.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across the transportation organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Supply Chain/Business related field, or equivalent experience
- 5-10 years of Logistics/Transportation or related field
- Experience establishing key performance indicator (KPI) metrics to benchmark/track performance
- Experience in Excel for data reporting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks and projects
- Highly motivated, energetic, strong sense of urgency to meet goals and deadlines

Work Schedule: Hybrid Onsite: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; Work from Home: Mondays and Fridays
