About the Role
Lead an OUCARES sports or social skills program with the goal of improving the quality of life of participants with Autism and their families.
Responsibilities
- Lead weekly sports programs (e.g., basketball, soccer, bowling) during Fall, Winter, and Spring, with 1-2 hour sessions per week.
- Create a therapeutic and social environment for participants with Autism Spectrum Disorders, focusing on well-being rather than athletic conditioning.
- Teach participants to engage in sports while fostering fun, safety, and comfort.
- Further develop and sustain OUCARES sports programs to promote exercise, socialization, and improved quality of life for participants.
- Work independently and creatively with minimal supervision.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in special education, recreational therapy, human services, or a related field.
- Knowledge of sports and/or therapeutic coaching methods.
- Positive attitude, high energy, and a genuine interest in and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
Qualifications
- Preferred: CPI training.
- Preferred: CPR/First Aid training.
- Preferred: At least 2 years’ experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or developmental disabilities.
