About the role
The incumbent is responsible for enforcing urban planning regulations and the Environment Quality Act, issuing permits and certificates, and serving notices of violation in accordance with established procedures across the city’s territory. The role aims to serve citizens while ensuring compliance with the city’s urban plan to promote rational use of space, preserve neighborhood harmony, and maintain quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patrols, usage inspections, and prepare associated reports; produce inventories and issue notices and findings.
- Follow up on complaints and requests.
- Welcome, inform, and respond to questions from stakeholders, citizens, and/or offenders regarding current regulations and environmental laws.
- Apply and ensure compliance with municipal regulations and environmental laws.
- Review applications and issue permits and certificates of authorization, except for complex requests (e.g., subdivision, construction, demolition).
- Perform inspections, verifications, and visits necessary to enforce laws, certificates, standards, and regulations related to the role.
- Maintain communication and transfer information between the Urban Planning Service and various partners (e.g., animal control, MRC).
- Order the halt of construction, modification, or demolition work conducted without permits that pose safety risks.
- Provide administrative support to the entire department staff.
- Perform any other related tasks as requested by a supervisor while ensuring service to citizens.
Requirements
- Hold a college diploma in architectural technology, civil engineering technology, building technology, or any other equivalent or directly related training.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
Pay
Hourly rate between $30.34 and $38.72 (Class 10), according to the current collective agreement.
Schedule
Full-time, permanent position. Standard workweek of 35 hours.
