OTP Pharmacist (PRN)

About the Role

AppleGate Recovery, a BAART Program, is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented per diem pharmacist to provide pharmacy services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other medical staff. The pharmacist will interpret and evaluate the validity and safety of orders and prescriptions, integrating core pharmacy knowledge with dispensing and order review activities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure drugs are handled safely and in compliance with patient welfare standards.
• Develop, review, and update policies and procedures annually for drug handling, including receipt, storage, recordkeeping, patient profiles, administration, and accountability of prescription drugs.
• Establish procedures for the removal and destruction of unwanted, unused, outdated, or recalled drugs, and ensure the security of controlled substances.
• Promote safety and efficacy in the provision of pharmaceutical services.
• Avoid participation in fee-splitting, rebates, or kickbacks that may exploit patients or their families.
• Document all visits, activities, and irregularities.
• Train facility staff on medication administration, adverse reactions, special diets, and other drug therapy-related information.
• Manage stressful situations and interact professionally with others.
• Maintain individual patient profiles.
• Visit the facility as needed and be available for emergencies.
• Dispense take-home medication to eligible patients.
• Maintain methadone inventories, including placing and receiving orders.
• Conduct biennial inventory.
• Participate in regulatory agency surveys or audits.
• Conduct all business activities in a professional and ethical manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 18.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.
• Current pharmacist license in the assigned state.
• Certification in CPR and First Aid (or ability to obtain).
• Understanding of HIPAA, Federal, State, and CARF standards and regulations.
• Knowledge of medications that interfere with methadone effectiveness.
• Ability to recognize methadone overdose and take appropriate action per program protocol.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong documentation and computer skills.
• Knowledge of local community drug trends, effects of drugs of abuse, signs and symptoms of narcotic overdose, and psychosocial implications of addiction.
• Understanding of the process of addiction and treatment, as well as social service, economic, legal, and medical systems.
• Familiarity with HIV transmission and its health, behavioral, and emotional implications.
• Ability to work effectively within a medical hierarchy, assist in complex problem-solving, and work autonomously.
• Ability to work with a diverse population and exhibit excellent customer service skills.
• Knowledge of the Code of Pharmacy Regulations in the assigned state.
• Ability to supervise personnel.
• Satisfactory drug screen and criminal background check.
